What Is Ejaculation And What You Can Do?

That quick, exciting and ticklish feeling that you can’t control while having some intimate time with your lover. Do you know what it is called? We are going to talk about what is ejaculation and identify common causes of early ejaculation. We are also going to answer questions such as what causes these problems. What to do when you have early ejaculation problem and where to go to seek help.

First we will explain what ejaculation is and the process. Ejaculation is the release of semen from the penis during sexual climax. Semen is the white fluid that is released. This can happen either by stroking the penis as a way of masturbating or by having sexual intercourse. During sexual intercourse, the brain sends signals to the genital area through nerves in the spinal cord to make the pelvic muscles contract. At orgasm, waves of muscle contractions transport the sperm, with a small amount of fluid, from the testes through to the vas deferens. The seminal vesicles and prostate contribute extra fluid to protect the sperm.

This mixture of sperm and fluid (semen) travels along the urethra to the tip of the penis. The semen is ejaculated (released) from the tip.

What kind of ejaculation problems exist for men?

These are a few ejaculation problems that men have experienced which can be treated:

  • Premature – is when you release semen before you intend to while having sexual intercourse.
  • Retrograde – is when semen enters the bladder instead of going out through the urethra during ejaculation.
  • Delayed – occurs when a man takes too long to ejaculate.
  • Painful – occurs when a painful or burning sensation is felt during or after ejaculation. The bladder, penis or rectum are painful.

How common are ejaculation problems?

Premature ejaculation is the most common male sexual problem. Premature ejaculation affects men of all ages. A young man who is starting out to have sex can experience a lot of these problems. The cause could be that he is less sexually experienced or feel insecure and under pressure to perform better to please their lovers. It is most likely for the first round to be quick and disappointing. This is caused by too much excitement, which is hard to control if you haven’t ‘had any’ in a while. So don’t worry when you hit a quickie the first round. It is normal.

When you get older your ejaculation will generally start to take a bit longer. So we can assume for now that it goes with experience. Regular sex can elliminate this issue. When this issue persists it can cause distress for the man and his partner. Let’s look at the causes of these problems.

What are the causes?

Early Ejaculation problems have a variety of causes. The causes are both physical and psychological. The physical causes include some illnesses such as diabetes, some types of surgery or trauma, some types of inflammation or infection, certain medicines, and chemical imbalances in the brain (neurobiological disorders). Psychological causes include stress, anxiety (such as anxiety about ‘sexual performance’), relationship difficulties and depression. For each type of ejaculation problem and for each individual man there may be one or more causes of a problem.

How do I tell my partner about my problem?

It is best to talk to you partner about any sexual issues that you have. Talking to your partner can be very helpful. Your partner will be able to support you. Your ejaculation problem is affecting your partner as much as it is affecting you. When you are seeking treatment do involve your partner.
